By popular demand, our “When it Rains” t-shirts will be available for purchase starting Friday, January 13, 2012, (lucky you!) at the Big Picture in Waitsfield. Thank you so much to the awesome team that makes the Big Pic such a cool place! T-shirts are $22 each and are available in Men’s S-2XL and Women’s XS-XL while supplies last.

Since you’re heading there anyway, check out the 9th Annual Mountaintop Film Festival. It will run January 13-19 and feature seven days of “film for thought in honor of Martin Luther King Jr. And don’t forget about Valley Night – the best place to be on a Wednesday!

Hey Santa! Here's what I want for Christmas...!

Thanks so much to everyone who came out to the 2011 Moretown Arisans’ Sale! Your support helped raise money for the Wet Paint Fund (we’re still counting it!) You got to listen to the music of Last October, see Santa and of course do some holiday shopping! I am enjoying a delightful late morning cup of coffee from my new beautiful, hand-made Christmas present to myself, and I swear it tastes better than ever because it’s in a locally made mug!

What a great day at the Moretown Artisans’ Sale today! If you missed it, you can still check it all out tomorrow from 11am -4pm with a special visit from Santa from 12-2pm! 822 Photography will be setting up their photo booth too, so the whole family can be in the photo with Santa!

I’m really exited to see the Moretown Elementary School’s gym complete its transformation when all our artists finish setting up their booths!

Here it is everyone! Everything you’ve ever wanted to know about the Moretown Artisans’ Sale and more:

The Moretown Artisans’ Sale takes place at the Moretown Elementary School, right there on main street in the village. They have a nice parking lot too, for a little bonus convenience.
Saturday December 10 The show is open from 10am to 4pm. Sunday it will be open from 11am to 4pm. We have over 2 dozen incredibly talented and local artisans who will have gifts galore for everyone on your list!
We will have LIVE music from Last October on Saturday 11-1pm. These locals are amazing. A. Maz. Ing. Come see them for yourselves and buy their CDs to give your friends (hint, hint!) all weekend long at Booth #1!
Sunday from 12-2 we will have an extra special visit with SANTA! Bring the kiddos and the cameras!
Booth #1 will be home to the Wet Paint Fund. Here there will be an awesome Silent Auction full of amazing artwork donated by our talented and generous vendors.The Auction will run Saturday at 11am to Sunday at 2pm. Winning bids will be posted at 2:30.
We will also be selling super cool t-shirts to raise funds for the Wet Paint Fund at Booth #1. There are available in men’s, women’s, kid’s and even onesies. Adult sizes are $22 each and kid’s are $20.

Before I had 8 feet of water in my office and 4 feet in my home, I never fully understood what it’s like to lose everything. I was always as supportive as I could be to friends in need, but until the Irene Flood, my true understanding of loss was very limited and almost disconnected from the emotional weight of such tragedy. Then, August 28, 2011 suddenly my life changed.

Originally I was entertained by the storm. It seemed big and exciting, but the concept of disaster looming wasn’t fully realized. Then within a 40 minute window our already flooded driveway rose 5 feet and we saw significant debris floating down stream. My gut felt hallow as I watched the waters rise into my office and before I could think, I was frantically moving what valuables I could to higher ground and packing an overnight bag before wading through knee deep flood waters to safety.

After finally finding refuge at a neighbors house and narrowly avoiding being evacuated again, I spent a sleepless Sunday night monitoring Facebook for information and pictures, and pondering what I would see when I went home, what I’d saved, what I didn’t save.

Monday when the sun rose, the town seemed to slowly crawl out of hiding, into the muddied streets. Wide-eyed and drop-jawed we slipped our way back home only to find high water marks clearly stamped on buildings and trees at eye level and higher. Our belongs were spread around our homes as if they were in a life-size snow globe gone wrong. And the new realization of what it’s like to lose everything finally struck me like a baseball bat to the stomach.

But after some tears came the arms, shoulders and shovels of our neighbors and the clean up efforts rolled into town just as quickly as the waters did the day before. Now, over three months later, progress is evident. Flood victims have mostly regained control of their lives and with a fresh coating of snow, things almost seem normal. But the recovery is nowhere near complete. Irene’s signature will likely be on the town of Moretown and the whole state of Vermont for years to come. With the continued aid of our friends, family and community, the rebuilding pushes forward, slowly but surely.

The Moretown Artisans’ Wet Paint Fund is just one way that you can help people affected by the Irene Flood. You can purchase t-shirts, bid on items in our silent auction or donate directly to the fund this weekend at the Moretown Artisans’ Sale. All proceeds will go to artists whose businesses were damaged. Thank you in advance for supporting local artists!

Artists love to keep their work as fresh as possible and it’s usually quite hard to find two pieces that are exactly the same. But artists also tend to have a very unique style – almost a fingerprint – that is evident throughout their work. So while what you see in these photos may not be currently available in their booths, you’ll still know what to look for when you get there! See you soon!

Bring the kids and your camera and visit with Santa for FREE at the Moretown Elementary School, Sunday from 12-2. If you’d like, donations are welcome and will go to the Wet Paint Fund, aiding artists affected by the floods.

Let the kids visit with Santa and snap the kind of photos that will be cherished forever by the whole family, like this one of me and my sis from way back in the day. It still cracks me up every time I see it – a true work of art!
